Start by taking other courses you’re interested in: Not only is this important competitor and opportunity analysis, but it also gives you an idea of how a course could or should look and feel. What’s the pacing like? Is it via email, video, in-person chats? Once you understand how you want your course to look, it’s time to decide what it should include. Those same courses are a great starting place. How can you make your course better or more interesting? Do you have experience others don’t?
You could also opt to use existing websites for making money. These include both active income and passive income methods. For example, you could sell some used items or invest in creating some digital designs that then can be sold on merchandise. Again, devote a sizable portion of your time to passive income so that you can slowly build up earnings that will arrive on autopilot without any extra added effort. 

Affiliate marketing is the underdog in this list. While networks like CJ Affiliate by Conversant (formerly Commission Junction) still exist, affiliate marketing for the modern web works best when you connect directly with affiliates you feel are relevant to your website. Have a blog about iOS apps or books? Try the iTunes Affiliate Program. Sell design resources? Try promoting other makers on Creative Market. Dollarizing your results makes it much easier to avoid some pretty common pitfalls online.  For example, we all know that in order for a website to be profitable, it needs traffic – a steady stream of people coming to it.  The pitfall that most make is to measure the effectiveness of marketing activities based on the impact that those activities have on the number of people visiting the website.  The problem is that this is a gross over-simplification.  The easiest way to avoid this common pitfall is to dollarize your website’s traffic.  This is done by calculating the value (in dollars) of a visitor coming to your website.  The formula for this is: amount of sales / # of website visits = visit value in $$$.  With this formula it is easy to see whether or not increasing traffic is also increasing sales, or if the increase in traffic is from people who don’t buy.
Another important thing to remember before monetizing a website is that you should come up with a blog sales funnel and know how to convert your website visitors into leads and then into customers before you even launch your blog. That’s how you will get better ideas on how you can leverage your website traffic and make the most out of it by making money.

One of the cool things about Google AdSense is that it's so easy to get set up. If you have a blog or website, you can sign up for a free Google AdSense Account. From there, Google will give you a unique code that you will paste onto your website. Google takes it from there, tracking your page views, traffic, and earnings on your behalf. There is no upkeep or maintenance to get this thing going, which makes it a no-brainer if you have a website already.
